I’m wondering how many of you consistently do the same positions every shift. Every single shift, I either work in the front or at the drive thru window. I don’t do warming, I don’t do customer support, I don’t do any of the bar positions, and it’s starting to get absolutely monotonous.
I’ve asked lately if I can switch it up to something else. Yet every time it seems like my SM has some kind of excuse as to why I need to stick to those two. “I don’t need anymore breaks covered” “You only have 2 hours left anyways” etc
And I understand putting people where they’re strongest, but idk why I bothered to be trained for 6 different positions just to do those two every day for several months.
I’m sick of it, please tell me if you relate.

A lot of it will depend on your experience and what shift you’re working. I have a handful of people who just can’t keep up on warming or bar during peak. I’m happy to put them there outside of peak, because that’s how you get practice, but if you’re scheduled 7-11 or something like that, every morning, those people are gonna be stuck at the window or on front if we have one. I would much rather have a full crew of people who can work in any position but that’s just not the case.

it’s not just cause they’re not capable. Big favoritism at play. Most shifts I have never put me on bar in the morning. One day it’s a different shift who puts me on bar during peak. Even my manager complimented me and said I did a great job and our times were great. Yet still whenever it’s these 2 shifts I’m always stuck on window during peak. It’s not cause I’m not capable it’s just favoritism

This exact thing happens to me, I recently started speaking up about it, and I’m barely starting to get rotated- but it’s like pulling teeth sometimes.

i’m always on bar because 90% of our store’s partners have been here for 3 months or less. and most of them still can’t properly sequence drinks or get a good rhythm on bar. so i get stuck there. every. day.😀

im very frequently on drive thru bar. like probably 9/10 shifts im on bar during peak. i don't mind it cause it's where im strongest, but i can see other baristas getting annoyed that i get bar time all the time.
i also have had times where, when im setting up for peak and i try to give a little variety on who's where and the store manager will tell me no, put this barista here cause they suck at this and do this instead. well why'd you ask me to be the playcaller if you have your own opinions?

yeah for the first 3 months i was only on till / warming. for 3. months. it was awful, and it was this one shift that basically refused to put me on bar even though i was capable

during peak I'm usually on some sort of bar (Cafe/Mobile, DT, Bar Support/Cold Bar) and then after peak I'll either stay there or do Solo Drive, regardless of who the play caller is.
It can get repetitive but honestly I don't mind. Thats where I'm strongest and I rly hate front/CS 😫
But I understand why it can get frustrating for those who prefer to move around more or want more experience in other areas.

I'm still pretty new to the job, only working weekends, and our only trainer quit about three months after I started. So I'm still not fully trained and have only been on ovens and DT since I started. I don't mind, bar stresses me out, but the past two months I've only been placed on DT and I'm getting pretty tired of it.

i am always either CS, drive, or front and warming, front and warming almost always turns into me being CS as well. i don’t mind any of these (except CS, it isn’t bad it just makes me so nervous), but i want to be able to make drinks. it kind of makes things hard when people order and ask questions about different drinks and i don’t know how they’re made, so i have to ask someone else. i was trained, but all the training was in one day back in june so it didn’t really stick. i’ve asked to be on bar to learn a few times and people say “yeah sure” but then i don’t actually ever get to it. i can do mostly everything on cold bar, but since i haven’t practiced i can be a little slow when it comes to frapps and stuff. i got the refreshers DOWN though, but those are easy.
i work only a few hours a week, so i get why it might not even be worth showing me how, or slowing anything down. it does make me sort of sad though, i’d love to learn how to make everything. it’s disheartening.

for the first two weeks i was exclusively on reg but a few months in i’m getting consistent bar time and doing bar/reg equally (i rarely get put on CS which i prefer to reg lol). a couple people who started before me are also stuck at warning/front reg but after a few little panic attacks at reg i decided to get really good at bar when they put me there lol
