I dropped a bean hopper last night and it broke..(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by melkorarose
..So tonight I'm not only walking into a shift where I'm bascially stuck closing alone because the 2nd closer is completely unreliable (been trained TWICE and still cannot do anything correctly), but the possibility of us only having one bar if we didn't get a replacement hopper. And im in at 9am tomorrow.
I want to scream and cry and 10 minutes will not be enough for it

What do you mean - “broke it” do you have the m1 or m2?

I'm not sure, we have the "newer" ones. They have sticks sticking thru them with a hoop that locks them and the beans in place with the bar, pull up to lock them in and remove the hopper etc etc.. it fell/dropped from my grip and landed on the stick part and the lock snapped, the bar wouldn't register that it was there when we put it back and the beans won't be able to be held in it because the locking mechanism snapped.
For context I started in June, we apparently already had all the new equipment, I didn't know they were new until a transfer ssv said he didn't know these bars cuz his store had the old ones.

same thing happen to one of ours a while back, that’s the day i started telling people to be gentle with them because they’re so fragile lol. we ended up calling around to see if any other stores have extra replacements and thankfully they did. if that’s not the case for you, the best things is just ordering a new one and waiting for it to arrive then.

My shift filed a report and a guy just came and brought us a new one. Our acting sm turned mobiles off for us until just now but our labor is so bad as a result that we had to cut a closer...ugh.
Smh tho, the opener knew it wasn't gonna be operable and put beans in it anyways 💀

absolute silly behavior

If it makes you feel any better, we’ve broken our M2s in the exact same way multiple times. Usually the technician shows up the next business day

I hope so. Our regular tech guy is super chill too and we talk anime with him but he's already been here like 5 times this month for repairs 😭
BatWeary3 points6m ago
we have a tech that comes weekly at this point 😭 we’re practically besties at this point. best part is he used to be a shift so he’s super sweet to us!

oh i feel that! everything breaks all the time here too. especially the M2s. everything that could go wrong does.

Your SM should keep emergency back ups of hoppers for when these things happen
melkorarose [OP]3 points6m ago
She does! Just not for the one that broke, the big one broke and ofc we only have the small ones
NarwhalNic3 points6m ago
🤔 unfortunately I’m not familiar with the new machines as I’ve still go the old ones, but with the old ones you could trick the locking mechanism into thinking the hopper was in place with a well placed magnet, but I dunno if I would risk it with the new ones as they’re much more electronics-based

You can get around it. Stick the black circle magnets in the spots where the hopper is supposed to lock into. You just won’t have those beans available on that bar

What we did is we just woke up the other bar and stuck its bean hopper in place of the broken one on the other, just to do the clean cycle. The broken one would not register with the bar no matter how many times we tried to trick it. And it was 10:30pm, our openers were asleep and we weren't really able to do anything but leave a note, file a report and hope for the best. It freaking blows. I'm about to clock in and I really hope they were able to get another hopper.
(We have 2 bars in total, DTO and cafe/mobile/delivery, for context)
