Do partners make own beverages at your store? ()

Yes, but we're not supposed to. I don't understand why, like, obviously I get marking out your own drinks being against the rules, but what's wrong with making your own drinks..??
RosieHarlan 15 points 6m ago
Since the policy is that you should only be marking out drinks 30 minutes before or after your shift and during breaks, they don’t want you on the floor working while you’re not supposed to be there or are supposed to be on a break.

I usually don’t mind people making their own drinks while they are on their break but sometimes they’ll have no sense and hop on my bar in the middle of a rush while I’m trying to work and I have to tell them to leave the floor and wait for it.

Cafe only, while working we make our own drinks and mark them out ourselves too. Which I like because often I’m just freestyling exactly what I want, if I had to get in line and order I’d end up just asking for an iced chai instead of experimenting. Sometimes if someone comes in when they’re not working they’ll still be allowed to come back and make their own drink too lmao especially if it’s a frapp. 🤫

Super casual store compared to what I’ve read in here! Makes me never wanna be a borrowed partner because I just know I’ll accidentally get myself in trouble somewhere else.

nice try corporate 🥴

Lol and next can you provide the partners names and store number, haha I’m just curious! Lol

As an SM, I let my partners make/mark out their own drinks. There are other things to worry about. Obviously you aren’t supposed but I couldn’t care less.
nicolelynnejones 14 points 6m ago
Yes. I’ve only worked at one store where partners didn’t make out their own beverages and it was a massive headache. Partners either stood in line their entire breaks or were late for their shift due to waiting in line. It’s just impossible to predict how busy it’s going to be at any given time around here. It just caused bottlenecks all over the place.

We aren't allowed to make ours but just force print it on the iPad before shift and during breaks. We aren't allowed after our shift though.
BatWeary 5 points 6m ago
we weren’t even allowed to force print when my SM enforced the rule. my store never has less than 20 orders in queue, it got to a point none of us were eating or drinking anything because wait times were so ridiculous
nicolelynnejones 1 points 6m ago
Tbh the siren is so cheap I can see this being their ultimate goal
nicolelynnejones 1 points 6m ago
what the hell is force printing 👁️👄👁️
Ceramicusedbook 2 points 6m ago
You can prioritize tickers through the iPad. You open the DPM, under "received" swipe the ticket or select the order and hit "customer is here".

It will force that order to skip to the next in line to be printed.
nicolelynnejones 1 points 6m ago
Omg this is a revelation, i’ve always seen the customer is here option but no one had any clue what it was

I always make mine cause if I'm getting espresso, I'm very anal about it. that, and my drinks are really fucking annoying for other people if they have to make it. I won't do it if I'm not the one behind the bar.

It depends. Working morning crew, a lot of us don’t want to make our own drinks. Usually because it messes up the barista(s)-on-bar’s drink sequencing. I usually cannot take this attitude when working with afternoon crew. I’ve had other partners tell me to make my own drink instead when I am off and literally on the other side of the bar too lol. It was like a strawberry açaí for my little sister - nothing really complicated, but still encouraged for us to make our own drinks when possible.
BatWeary 4 points 6m ago
We do. My SM tried to enforce the rule but gave up. Our store is far too busy (and too many of our partners have dietary restrictions that require sanitation of pitchers to keep track of) to do so. I’ve ordered a drink 30 minutes BEFORE my shift started & not receive it until 15-20 minutes after I clock in. Same with lunches. Water is the superior drink and all but sometimes I just want a good drink & it’s stupid that I have to either suck it up & drink a watery, nasty latte that goes to waste or wait until the end of my shift (where I would still wait forever bc our PM baristas aren’t exactly fast on bar).
Actual_Window_7764 4 points 6m ago
Omgggg we make drinks at our store all the time lol every store I’ve worked in (6 in total) have never cared.
Sarenord 3 points 6m ago
Oh yeah, not uncommon for a few partners to come in per day just to make a drink or two and leave. Not scheduled partners, just people from the main crew that wanted a drink on their day off
DeepFriedJoseph 2 points 6m ago
I always make my own drink because I hate adding drinks to a barista on bar especially when it’s busy. Plus i like to add extra extra Vscf on my beverage sometimes.
miniinovaa 2 points 6m ago
Policy says no, but my store does, especially cuz it’s busy and no one wants to wait forever for their drink
PurpleElephant219 2 points 6m ago
partners at our store are only encouraged to make their own drinks during peak especially if they’ll only be having a 10 min break, just so they can utilize their 10 minutes well. another exception our store has made, are for trainees to make their own beverages so they can get a hang of the recipes! but other than that, we’re not really encouraged to make it ourselves as it is policy
Financial_Hand3685 1 points 6m ago
Nope
PotatoFairy451 1 points 6m ago
Yeah. We're not supposed to but all of us do anyways.
peepeepoopaccount 1 points 6m ago
At my first store it was a big no. At my current store we do make our own drinks
PrestigiousLong3023 1 points 6m ago
We typically all make our own drinks. Recently though my manager has been pushing for us to order our drinks when we start a break rather than making it for ourselves. He said that he’s noticed too many partners trying to make their own drinks and crowding/slowing down the person on bar because they’re pushing in and trying to make something themselves and just getting in the other person’s way. (Our store is super old, so it’s way too small and cramped as it is)

We still make our own drinks, but not during peak/when it’s busy. If it’s really busy and we don’t want to wait we’ll just grab something easy like a cold brew or refresher.

Not allowed to make your own drinks. It’s in the partner resource manual
