so i got hired almost six months ago the store they’re building, that i was hired for, still isn’t done. since they classified me as “new store labor” i don’t make tips during my shifts. it’s getting really old hearing other baristas talk about how much in tips they’re making, when i literally get nothing. i talked to my SM & he said there’s nothing he can do about it until the new store is completed. but i was promised tips and i’m just not making any.

I’m 99 percent sure this is illegal unless maybe there is an actual loophole at play here but that doesn’t seem right. I was making tips when I was training during week one. Hoping other people who know more then me can provide more information towards your situation. If not try to look for more information elsewhere. This seems very illegal and I’d imagine if you took action you could be compensated for all the tips you missed out on since you started working. (That would be best case it could be too late)
I know speaking up for yourself is hard but definitely something should have be done months and months ago. This isn’t right

training yes you get tips. but not during non-coverage. I’m not sure about “new store labor” category so it may be similar to non-coverage idk.

we’re listed as non-coverage but we’re working at this store & have been for six months. it just really sucks because i could really use those extra dollars :|

You should’ve been getting tips. Immediately tell your store manager and district manager( if SM won’t do anything about it). This is wage theft and it’s illegal

You absolutely do get tips while coded as non coverage, I ran clean play, did the tips myself, and worked 40 hours every week, not once were my hours cut a few from the total to take out noncoverage

yeah no this isn’t true… like this shouldn’t be happening. you should call ethics

Sm opening a new store here, hours charged to NSO, do not, in fact, get tips. If it's been like that for 6 months, someone is not coding your hours correctly. NSO hours are ONLY for hours needing to be charged to the new store, and those are very specific, setting up shelving, receiving orders, new store meetings, testing equipment, etc. Reach out to your DM.
Edited for spelling and grammar.

When being housed, your hours would be charged as coverage to the store you're at.

I spoke to my SM again before seeing this, and he said it’s because they don’t have enough hours at the store they’re housing us at to give us shifts labeled coverage. But, if this is the case, why are we hiring 10-15 people at once for the new store, and training all of them, and housing them in the current store.

Asm here and also housed quite a few partners for remodels and new store openings. You should be coded as coverage since your on to the floor, and your not doing set up for your new store. Most def recommend calling PCC or ethics and compliance because that’s not okay. If they don’t have hours for you they should spit more of the team up into different store for the time being to help. I’m sorry your going though this and hopefully it gets better :/

They aren't coding things correctly at all. If anything, they should be adding that to the training budget. You'd still get tips for that, at least.

I am In same boat: I been hired for 3 month and haven’t got tips because my store keeps getting delayed. But opens soon. I understand how feeling expessally during Christmas time I had dude tip me 30$ because I help him he told me have great Christmas with it. But sadly didn’t get any of it

This is unconscionable, they owe you tips!!! Wtf!! Def call ethics and compliance.
