How manny scoops go in a full batch of pike (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BrwonRice
I’ve always been told it’s 3 but I just transferred to a new store and was told it’s 4.

From what I heard it’s depending on what your brewer is calibrated to. Some brewers are calibrated to being 3 scoops and others are calibrated to being 4.

This is what i know from a tech that came into our store and let us know our brewer is calibrated to 3. He asked if we wanted to change it to 4 but i told him no just cause I wasn’t sure what my manager would like to have for the store.

They changed the standard this year to 4 but you are right, not all brewers are calibrated yet. Eventually we should all be using 4 :)

Mine uses 4. If you use 3, how do you do half and quarter batches? If 3 scoops equals 1 batch then a quarter would be .75 scoops and I don't see that getting measured accurately.

The amount of water that comes out for the full batch is different. This is what they mean by "calibrated." Pretty much all brewers are calibrated the same for quarter and half batches. For full batch though, some are calibrated for 3 scoops. In this case the water line is about an inch from the top of the glass tube. For brewers calibrated for a 4-scoop full batch, the water line after brewing is almost coming out of the vent hole in the top of that same glass tube.

I worked in a region that used 3-scoop full batches and then transfered for college to a store that did a 4-scoop. Was a good 4 months before I realized it was different.

Half gets 2 and a quarter gets 1 no matter which type of store. The only difference is in the full batch :)

thanks 😊 I was wondering if it was something like that, I’ve been digging on the partner hub for the last couple days and couldn’t fine anything on it

This is the correct answer. Your store might do 4 or 3 depending on store needs.

Easiest way to find out is to brew a full batch of water into the urns. If the water goes all the way up the sight glass or overflows the urn, you’re a 4-scoop store. If the water only goes up about 3/4 of the way, you’re a 3-scoop store.

The techs who come out to service the machines are supposed to put little stickers on the brewers next to the batch buttons. They look like little coffee scoops, and show how much scoops each batch should be.

Honestly, just put in a ticket for the brewer and say it’s not calibrated correctly (because they never are). And when they come out, ask them to put the stickers on the brewer so everyone knows.

Also, teach everyone in your store to use the cube lids to level off the scoops every time. That way every batch of coffee is indistinguishable from the last. Heaping scoops = really dark and bitter coffee (and you’re more likely to get grounds in the coffee).

full batch is 4 cause half is 2
Veloci-Tractor 2 points 6m ago

dfarner 30 points 6m ago

Veloci-Tractor -10 points 6m ago
oh man, i've been doing 3
jamieisntgay 2 points 6m ago
No fucking way 💀
imnotcalmable 1 points 6m ago
Why would you do more for a quarter?
throwaway2825272 8 points 6m ago
quarter is one scoop which is 1/4 , half is 2 scoops which is 1/2 , and then the full batch is 4 scoops
Veloci-Tractor -3 points 6m ago
haha im just goofin

Another thing that might be happening is that they don’t level their scoops of beans so 3 heaping scoops might be more equal to 4 leveled scoops. If you put too many grounds in to brew, it could overflow the filter and you get grounds in the brewed coffee. Seems kinda weird bc I doubt that EVERYONE at that store wouldn’t level their scoops but I’ve seen weirder store specific standards.
CatalyticGenesis 6 points 6m ago
it also depends on what type of brewer you have. at both of the licensed stores i worked at, we had a smaller system so full was 3 and half was 2, and we didn't even have the capacity for quarter batches.

How many scoops go in 5 gallons of coffee if you are in the southern hemisphere and you are brewing upside down 🤔

Well when I was retrained this may they said 4 for a full batch 2 for a half and 1 for a quarter so I’m guessing it is 4? Unless we’re doing it wrong at my store
darkwolf523 1 points 6m ago
We do 4 scoops.
verdeuce 1 points 6m ago
4. Every store has moved to the 4 scoop on the bunn brewers. Ask your technician the next time they’re out but Fall 2 years ago every brewer got calibrated to the 4 scoop system
imnotcalmable 3 points 6m ago
Ours is still 3, but a lot went to 4, yes.
Nalin90 1 points 6m ago
It's one scoop for each quarter so 4 total for a full batch.
mcdermottbobby 0 points 6m ago
If 2 is half, then a full batch is ___? Come on people.
imnotcalmable 1 points 6m ago
“Full” isn’t necessarily double of the half batch. It depends how your brewer is calibrated.

It used to be 4 and then it got changed to 3 a couple of years ago (2019?).
Boundtoloveyou 1 points 6m ago
You are right that it changed for a hot minute, but it should be 4 again. They changed it back fairly quickly because it was a cost cutting measure that didn't do anything but make bad coffee. That is, unless your store is calibrated for smaller batches, like many others have said.
gryfinboi -2 points 6m ago
I've always been told to do 2..
