Any other shifts just… (self.starbucksbaristas)

Feel exhausted beyond belief and burnt to a crisp because you’re running a floor on deaf ears and feel that whenever you try to coach it’s not received well and just ignored?

Still checks out

Absolutely. I’ve been trying to delegate more, but when I ask my baristas to do tasks (run garbage, do floors, clean bars, etc.) they roll their eyes and tell me no. I usually end up doing everything and I’m feeling burnt to the max

I literally hit a brick wall when our health inspector came in today and had to scramble to do everything because the baristas on the floor were chitchatting or not attentive to the dude with glasses and a bag looking at shit (like unmarked milks that were opened, syrups and beans that were not dated…) the one girl that wants to be a shift literally asked “Is he gone yet? I wanna let down my hair.” And I just wanted to look at her and go “as someone who wants to become a shift, why don’t you assess the numerous healthcode violations that are right in front of you…you hair wouldn’t be the first…”

It’s just so frustrating to try and do everything the correct way, only to get pushback because TikTok says how “fun” our job is….it’s still foodservice and retail…still gotta follow the rules :/

We had ecosure come the other day and I was so spread thin with frustration that day I just sat in the back and clocked out for my meal. I let them write us up for everything without even attempting to help partners fix the store. If they don’t want to do their job then they suffer the consequences of it reflecting negatively on the way their shifts look🤷‍♀️ being an ssv is the most exhausting thing I’ve done and I once taught preschoolers. So to all the baristas that don’t want to do something, please try and understand that it’s one more thing I really need help doing.

Is your SM aware of this? This is not how it should be. If you don’t have the respect of your partners, your SM should be involved in the coaching conversations that happen around it.

Oof, as a barista who loves all of my shifts, I'm sorry you have to go through with this. Sounds like most if not all baristas need to be fired but that wouldn't be sensible if not prepared. You should definitely take some time off if pos. and report the concerned baristas to manager (if your manager gives a shit). If you're the only one that really seems to care about doing your job properly, I would say transfer.

And no you shouldn't be the one to leave but the floor is your responsibility to manage on your shift. If you get too many reports or complaints or whatever, you can be effected as you know. And complaining about the barista will only go so far. From what you're explaining, they dont care enough about the job more or less you to make sure you won't get fired. So cover your ass.

Hope all goes well, happy new year!

My manager is leaving shortly. But we’ve come a long way from sitting on the counter tops during breaks and having our nails painted. I wanna say they’re just…clueless when it comes to health code, which to be fair, I was as well when I was a “newer” barista and I feel the BUX poorly educates anyone on actual healthcode. That being said, if your shift is running around and saying “Hey. The health inspector is here. Recall all those things I’ve ‘scolded’ you for, make sure those things are done *rags on counters, open product dated, no nails or watches, ect…* I hope they realize as they’re “afternoon” peeps that…this shit doesn’t only occur during the morning!!

Are you supported by your SM? I feel like that kind of consistent behavior should result in some sort of corrective action.
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 2 points 6m ago
I’m told to my face the manager is “trying to change things”, like she’s given write ups, but I’ve not seen any changes :/ it’s leading me to question if I’m just a shitty leader because I care :( like my shifts tend to be difficult because I feel like im one of the few that will mark the milk, rotate it, put away backstock once its time to condense, ect….you know :/

This needs to be a conversation with your SM and corrective action needs to be given. Remind them that you are telling them to do drive thru/bathrooms/warming etc and not asking. Also remember that you can send people home if they have a shitty attitude.

I’m a cafe store, so we don’t even have drive thru, so it shouldn’t be that much harder because we only have a max of 30’s per half hour… my Sm Is leaving, I’m gonna see what this new one does and if I don’t think she’s all that I’m gonna transfer to one of the other 6 Starbucks within the five mile radius of myself.

Yup, so much happier since I stepped down.
cybiecybie 3 points 6m ago
same, felt defeating when I would run around like a headless chicken while no one wants to do anything
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 3 points 6m ago
I sadly need the pay, especially if I’m going to finish up my degree in 14 months.
crispycokecan 2 points 6m ago
They straight up just say no? Gasp. I’d send them home if it was consistent. Might as well not be there if you’re not going to be a team player.
