they are both paid. sick time is to be used when you’re sick. vacation time is to be used when you just want a day off or anything other than sick. vacation time is paid out when you leave the company. sick time is not. sick time can be used when you have a dr appointment and are scheduled but didn’t ask for time off and get scheduled a shift you now need coverage for.

They are equivalent in terms of pay. When you use X hours of sick or vacation time, you’ll get X hours of pay at your current pay rate.
You accrue sick time starting when you’re hired. You can use it when you miss scheduled shifts due to illness, mental health, medical or dental appointments, etc.
You accrue vacation time after one year and you can use it whenever you want, as long as it doesn’t cause your total pay to go over 40 hours in a week.
