My store manager is now telling us to time our 10’s when they say go on break rather timing it by the time on our sticker after we mark something out, which is simple enough and I understand that because it’s literally a legal policy.
However, my store is a tiny (corporate) kiosk located in the center of a very busy mall. People have a 360 degree view of us 24/7 and I’ve been coached on making sure to look happy because we’re “on a stage”. This also means that our break area is a table right behind the kiosk with a little sign that says employees only, blocked off by a little rope but totally open in sight to everyone. Do people ever follow the sign? Absolutely not -_- now they especially think it’s okay to ask us where everything is in the mall, especially the apple store which you can clearly see if you turn your head to the right a bit.
Onto my point, we’ve all tried bringing up a better break area to the higher ups, SM not included because she doesn’t seem to care, and nothing has been done. I just texted said manager about my concerns about not really having a comfortable 10 because of this issue and she said that all the other employees at different stores in the mall take their 10’s and come get drinks at our store but their company doesnt give them time after they finally get it. She also said that we dont have to take our breaks at that table but who really wants to walk 2 minutes to somewhere quiet, take a 6 minute break sitting (if we even got our food or drinks) and then walk 2 minutes back to then work again?? She tried saying how she goes somewhere else to take her breaks but she doesnt even come back to the floor, she sits in the comfortable desk chair at the table and does work on her computer. And she constantly marks stuff out after she clocks in while I get coached for not coming in earlier to mark something out.
anyways… thats my rant, I’m quitting soon once I find a better job
