It’s up to the store manager and/or district manager if they want to set availability requirements for shifts.

I’ve been told by both that we are yet not all shifts at my store are held to that standard so just wondering how to approach that situation 😮💨

So many people at my store wouldn't do both and then as soon as i took closing out of my availability i was told i have to close. you wouldn't believe the fit i pitched

My availability is a lil wack but it usually protects me from clopens. Its just a spoken agreement, and not something i can do on the app, but I ask for 2 days off together amd at least 12 hours between each shift. Other than that, whatever they want to do with me Ill do it.
I did however get pidgeonholed into only working nights because of the other shifts availabilities, again, theyre more tenured than me. But at least i dont feel abused with constantly changing the dayparts I work.

Generally speaking yes it’s the expectation. However, if you stay at a store long enough and are in excellent standing then you aren’t necessarily required to follow that. I only open now and my manager has never once asked me to close or mid-shift. But it took 2yrs of miserable clopens to get only opening

No, it is not in any handbook or rulebook. Your store manager set an expectation for your availability.
You can play it hard and tell them you can only open or close. However, without a contract, they can let you go without a second thought.
When I transferred into my current store, I made it clear that I was only able to open or close, but not both. My manager accepted my availability when I transferred in, so there have been no issues with avaliablity
