Hey friends! I’m heading in to my third week of training. My first two got off to a rocky start and I’ve yet to do any of the training modules in the hub. My training shifts are very limited each week, as my trainer is really part time, making it hard to retain any information.

I’ve been given no training plan and little to no information when learning a new area. I’m kinda just winging it. On top of that, my trainer has little to no patience when I ask questions. If I am having a hard time with an order they push me out of the way and just do it instead or they will be talking to other employees and will ignore my requests for help. I am a hands on learner (which I’ve expressed to them) and I can’t retain information if I’m not pressing the buttons myself. I have received a lot of criticism from them but none of it is constructive. I have yet to learn any drink builds or anything on bar which can make modifying a drink difficult when putting an order in.

Anyway, I’d like to ask for a new trainer but I don’t know how to go about that. I don’t want to hurt any feelings or create animosity but I don’t feel like I’m getting the most out of the learning process. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Either you ask for a new trainer, study the drinks on quizlet or confront your trainer. You applied to starbucks to work there,no? If you don't know what your doing and your trainer is not training you right , you will be fired if you become a liability.

You don't have to be rude about it, but tell them straightforwardly that them doing the work for you is not helping. Yes you(trainer) know what you're doing but I(OP) don't.

I(me) hated training because it was such a fast paced 2 weeks. And there's so much to learn!!! So many details that go into making one drink! So I do recommend you OP to learn on quizlet and apply t
It during training. I had major anxiety getting on any bar because It can catch up to you really quickly.

Thank you so much! I’m so terrified of learning bar next week (if I’m even on bar since I’m working at peak) but also don’t want to strain the relationship with the trainer moving forward. I’m going to try to talk to her again and definitely go over the drink recipes on my downtime this weekend.

Fingers crossed. I just pray she isn't sensitive to confrontation. It would be a pain if she became passive aggressive because of it..

That’s exactly my fear. It’s such a pickle. Good news is the rest of the team has been extremely supportive and are quick to answer all my questions.
