I'm legally blind (20/400 ish) but I really enjoy crochet (I'm pretty good) and attempting to take photos (I'm not very good). Also, I love audiobooks and podcasts but that's probably a given.

> attempting to take photos
One good tip I know is to place the back of the camera against your forehead and look in the direction you want to take the picture.
If you have an iPhone the the camera app gives useful information when VoiceOver is turned on, e.g. it will tell you if it can see any faces in the picture or if the camera is not level. Wear headphones if you don't want others to come over and ask you what the phone is chatting about.

Video games.
If you're a person of faith, try giving service to your local ministry.
And of course, as is my usual response to these threads, alcohol, lots of it.

Your Mom's house with Tom Segura and his wife. Obscene. Hilarious.
blindnessandbees3 points2y ago
I wall climb! It took some getting used to but once I did it was pretty amazing!
Reading is also a big hobby of mine, I'm an English student so I'm constantly listenting to audiobooks.
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to be into music? I play some piano. Learning might be a bit harder but it is not impossible!

Cooking! Then you can eat the results.
yourmommaisaunicorn3 points2y ago
I knit, also know quite a few gamers who play Pokemon Lets Go on the Nintendo Switch.
Lots of podcasts and singing here. I'm probably not that great at the latter.
Nighthawk3212 points2y ago
Playing MTG, Youtube, swimming, video games, reading, and technology in general.
midnight-muffins2 points2y ago
I love to write and bake, though I do use some specialised equipment for the latter.
bjayernaeiy1 points2y ago
What specialised equipment do you use?
midnight-muffins1 points2y ago
Large Print Digital scales, stand mixer and food proccessor
bjayernaeiy1 points2y ago
I see... have you ever experimented with bluetooth scales so that you could see the results on your phone?
midnight-muffins1 points2y ago
No, I've never heard of those. We just happened to come accross a set of digital scales I was able to read whilst shopping one day and I've been using it ever since

Writing, reading /r/nosleep stories, tabletop gaming online, playing games like Jackbox with friends over discord, watching way too many garbage shows, reading fanfiction, sculpting, and playing some text based games.
the-cat15131 points2y ago
Hmm I am totally blind, from birth xd.
Brazilian Jiu jitsu (god, how I love him), reading fanfictions, fighting / running with potterheads on twitter, teasing my girlfriend, teasing my cat, reading tons and tons of science fiction and fantasy books, trying to learn programming, watching anime with my older brother, playing video games ...
bradley221 points2y ago
Harry Potter fan fiction, youtube The Click is awesome along with Sorrow TV, podcasts, I can’t rec any.
Altie-McAltface1 points2y ago
I'm trying to get into amateur radio in an effort to make friends and network. Shortwave listening also comes with the territory. I just picked up a Cuban numbers station last week. I feel like a spy :)
CosmicBunny971 points2y ago
I also need new hobbies lol. Most of my days are spent listening to audiobooks, podcasts, or YouTube. I occasionally cook/help with dinner and go for walks. I also write...or try to lol. Before my eye surgery last year, I really liked playing Sims, and looking at house plans and interior design stuff. Trying to think of ways to fill that void.
noaimpara1 points2y ago
I love painting and drawing, climbing, walking, hiking, travelling, doing lego projects, journaling and scrapbooking, and I want to get into reading and running! Honestly, when we say blind people can do anything we mean it.
Edit : also not a hobby, but some people think it is, so my main source of entertainment is watching youtube videos. I don’t even own a TV.

Learning languages and video games

I cook, bake, play the piano, practice programming and build websites by hand, write, create my own games and constantly update them with new features, make board games accessible with braille and accessible websites, play online games, binge movies and shows, annoy my cat, manage/moderate some online communities, listen to hockey, and do accessibility consulting for various companies.

I have some central vision in one eye, it \~20/200, very narrow visual field.
* boardgames - my husband installed a bunch of extra lighting over our game table and he/my friends help me out when I can't see something - I can use a magnifier to read cards or use my phone to zoom in on parts of the board, etc. It's getting harder, but it's my favorite hobby, so I stick with it * D&D - pretty accessible without vision depending on how your DM does things - husband made me a large-print character sheet and I have some large dice that my kid repainted the numbers on so they'd have more contrast * reading - it's mostly audio books these days, but if it's not, it's on my Paperwhite. Reading printed books has gotten painful to the point that I mostly don't even try * Hobby electronics - I used to do this more, but now I can only do it in 5-10 minute sessions before the eye strain is too much and I can't solder small circuits anymore, etc. I'd maybe give it up entirely if I hadn't invested a lot of money into equipment over the years and I have a couple projects I want to complete. * Digital art - still pretty accessible, since I have a big monitor and photoshop/illustrator let you zoom in a ton * podcast - I used to run a weekly one with a friend, which we took a break from for about 8mo but we're about to start back up again
The biggest issue for me is that sometimes I get eye strain really quickly and for me that means sudden and severe nausea that lasts for hours. The hobbies I listed above are things I love to do and try to do every chance I get, but the reality is also that sometimes after a full day of work, I'm just not physically up to doing anything other than sitting in the dark and falling asleep to a book or the TV.

I'm super into gardening, politics, and reading, that along with a corporate job takes up most of my time.
msimmons0241 points2y ago
How do u modify gardening?
annibear1 points2y ago
Not super hard! Almost all of it can be done tactilely. I make sure to plant plants that smell a lot, too.
