To prevent eye strain, every 20 minutes, people are supposed to look at something 20 feet away, for 20 seconds, when lookimg at things close up. If I can't make out anything that far away, how can I do this?(self.Blind)

This might be a dumb question.

Not a dumb question at all.
20 feet is the typical distance at which people's eyes are focused, when at rest. You move muscles in your eyes to squeeze the lens and make it focus closer or further. If you're nearsighted, for example, you'd want to wear glasses to correct your standard focusing distance to 20 feet or you'd want to look at something close to you, so the lens doesn't need to be squeezed.
The point of all of this is that the distance is less significant than being at rest. You don't have to look at anything at all.

I feel like my Dad would have loved this question. Context I’m legally Blind, diagnosed occolboma-nystagmus and he’d have me “work out” my eyes all the time if he noticed I was squinting or my eyes moving faster than normal. I hated it for the most part. Then he passed away and I still do this technique when I feel pressure in my eyes. Idk if it actually helps but it’s been a good coping skill/ mechanism for me ever since I could remember.

I know my daughters resource teacher just used to get her to rest and close her eyes and read a story to her or put on an audio story to give her eyes a break during school

I just look around, may be close them for a while, don't care about the distance. And, with screen readers these days, I am even keeping my laptop screen closed down and using it fully with my bluetooth keyboard. LMAO Assistive tech is making me laisy in the field of using my eyes.

You focus on the furthest thing that you can see and I was told to do it for ten to fifteen minutes not seconds like 20 min on 15 min off
